Prerequisites for replication

Configuring namespace replication for the first time
3. Set up the source DL3D appliance. Specify the target DL3D
system on each source DL3D in your environment. There is a
single target DL3D per source. See
appliance" on page
4. Enable and run replication. See
on page
149.
5. View the replication status. See
page
155.
6. Perform source role actions. See
on page
158.
7. Perform target role actions. See
on page 160
The requirements for replication include:
All source virtual tape libraries or NAS shares on a source system
must replicate to the same target system.
Only virtual tape libraries or NAS shares with de-duplication
enabled can be replicated.
For namespace replication, only virtual tape libraries or NAS
shares with replication enabled can be replicated.
For cartridge-based replication, only virtual tape libraries with
cartridge-based replication enabled can replicate tape cartridges.
For directory/file-based replication, only NAS shares with
directory/file-based replication enabled can replicate individual
files/directories.
For cartridge-based replication or directory/file-based
replication, virtual tape libraries or NAS shares with identical
Sync ID values on the source and target DL3D systems support
replication to each other.
For a new DL3D installation, or immediately after you have created a
new share/virtual tape library, you must replicate the namespace
(using the on-demand Replicate Now function) for each share
/virtual tape library as soon as it is created and enabled for
replication before any data is written to it.
