RECEIVER / DRIER
DESCRIPTION
The Receiver/Drier is mounted in the engine compart-
ment between the Condenser and is part of the liquid
line (1) assembly. The filter/drier cannot be repaired, if
the filter/drier is faulty, damaged, left open to the
atmosphere or contaminated the line assembly must
be replaced. (Refer to 24 - HEATING & AIR CONDI-

OPERATION
The Receiver/Drier (5) performs a filtering action to
prevent foreign material in the refrigerant from con-
taminating the Expansion Valve (3). A desiccant bag is
mounted inside the Receiver/Drier canister (5) to
absorb any moisture which may have entered and
become trapped within the refrigerant system. In addi-
tion, during periods of high demand A/C operation, the
Receiver/Drier (5) acts as a reservoir to store surplus
refrigerant. Refrigerant enters the Receiver/Drier (5)
as a high-pressure, low-temperature liquid from the
Condenser (6).
