Rotate the drive pulley (crankshaft) counterclock-
wise and align the T mark on the flywheel with the
index line in the crankcase cover.
Make sure the piston is at TDC (Top Dead Center) of
the compression stroke by moving the rocker arms.
If the exhaust rocker arm is tight, rotate the crank-
shaft one full turn (360 °) and align the T mark again.
Check the clearances of each valve by inserting the
feeler gauge between the rocker arm and shim.
VALVE CLEARANCE:
IN: 0.16 ± 0.03 mm (0.006 ± 0.001 in)
EX: 0.22 ± 0.03 mm (0.009 ± 0.001 in)
Move the rocker arm to the spring side and remove
the shim.
• Do not allow the shims to fall into the crankcase.
• Mark all shims to ensure correct reassembly in
their original locations.
• The shims can be easily removed with a twee-
zers or magnet.
Clean the valve shim contact area with compressed
air.
Measure the shim thickness and record it.
