To assign an IP address to an interface, use these commands in the following sequence, starting in the
CONFIGURATION mode:

Purpose
Enter the keyword interface followed by the type of interface
and slot/port information:
For a 1-Gigabit Ethernet interface, enter the keyword
followed by the slot/port information.
GigabitEthernet
For a Loopback interface, enter the keyword
followed by a number from 0 to 16383.
For the Management interface on the RPM, enter the
keyword
ManagementEthernet
information. The slot range is 0-1 and the port range is 0.
For a port channel interface, enter the keyword
followed by a number from 1 to 255 for
port-channel
TeraScale and ExaScale, 1 to 32 for EtherScale.
For a SONET interface, enter the keyword
followed by the slot/port information.
For a 10-Gigabit Ethernet interface, enter the keyword
followed by the slot/port
TenGigabitEthernet
information.
For a VLAN interface, enter the keyword
by a number from 1 to 4094.
For a 40-Gigabit Ethernet interface, enter the keyword
followed by the slot/port information.
fortyGigE
Enable the interface.
Configure a primary IP address and mask on the interface.
IP address must be in dotted decimal
ip-address mask:
format (A.B.C.D) and the mask must be in slash
prefix-length format (/24).
Add the keyword secondary if the IP address is the
interface's backup IP address. You can configure up to eight
secondary IP addresses.
