A typical motion control system is shown in Figure 6.1-1.
Figure 6.1-1—Typical Motion Control System
Its major components are:
Controller
an electronic device that receives motion commands from
a user directly or via a computer, verifies the real stage
position and generates the necessary control signals.
Driver
an electronic device that converts the control signals to the
correct format and power needed to drive the motors.
Stage
an electro-mechanical device that can move a load with the
necessary specifications.
Cables
needed to interconnect the other motion control compo-
nents.
If you are like most motion control users, you started by selecting a stage
that matches certain specifications needed for an application. Next, you
chose a controller that can satisfy the motion characteristics required.
