Capacity for Capturing Uncompressed Media Via 3G-SDI
Inputs
Lightspeed Live Capture can capture Uncompressed SD or HD in 8-bit or 10-bit via the
3G-SDI inputs. Several factors determine what your Lightspeed Live Capture system is
able to reliably capture. Use the chart below to calculate the Resource Use Factor (RUF)
when capturing Uncompressed. A Lightspeed Live Capture server RUF value should
never exceed 1.
Storage Location—Local Media drive or Shared Storage of NAS (Network Attached
Storage), or SAN (Storage Area Network).
Drive Configuration—The drive configuration is governed by the number of
drives making up your Live Capture system's media drive and the RAID type that
the media drive is configured for. A standard Live Capture server ships with a media
drive containing 4 drives striped as RAID 5. In addition, a Lightspeed Live Capture
system's media drive can be expanded to 8 drives by purchasing the media drive
option "LS-LIVE-4TB-OPTION". The RAID type of the media drive can be changed
from RAID 5 by the user to RAID 0 if disk I/O is more desirable than data redun-
dancy. See
Frame Size, Frame Rate, and Scan Type—The incoming input's frame size, the
frame rate, and scan type of interlaced (i) or progressive (p) will affect the require-
ments for capturing an Uncompressed file output.

*A Lightspeed Live server is capable of a total of one (1) RUF.
**Assumes that the shared storage hardware can support the required disk I/O for
these operations.
***See the LS-LIVE-4TB-OPTION to add 4 additional drives to a Lightspeed Live server.
