Drive Combinations

• If you plan to install other drives in the future, you should initially install
drives in the top slots and work down because the drives' logical numbers
are assigned from top to bottom.
• If the initial drives are installed from the bottom slots and up, any additional
drive installation will cause the entire column of drives to be re-numbered.
This will involve extra work from the system and software application
viewpoint.

Drive Combinations
The L180 library supports a combination of drives in various configurations.
The library can hold up to 10 DLT and/or LTO drives, up to six T9840 drives, or
a combination of these drives.
The drive positions or logical numbers are automatically assigned by the library
during initialization. However, you must configure each drive's SCSI IDs and
"on bus" or "off bus" status.
Within the drive column, an L180 library can hold:
• 10 Digital Linear Tape (DLT) drives (DLT 7000, DLT 8000, or Super DLT)
• 10 Linear Tape-Open (LTO) Ultrium drives
• Six T9840 Tape Drives (with room for one DLT drive)
• Six T9x40 Tape Drives (with room for one DLT drive)
• A mixture of DLT, Ultrium, and T9840 drives
The configuration procedure is explained in
Subsystem".
