Remote Setup
This appendix provides information about how to setup the library for remote
maintenance through the SER1 and the CSE ports on the MPC card.
• The SER1 port enables a remote or laptop computer to run diagnostic tests,
examine the fault symptom code (FSC) log, view FSCs, or connect the
library to a remote modem.
• The CSE port was used for the installation of Flash97 PROM code.
Note: Use the
CAUTION:
Potential system interruption: If you run diagnostic tests from a laptop
device, you may connect the laptop to either the SER1 port or the CSE
port on the electronics module bulkhead. Make sure the library is offline
before you run tests through either port. The command-line interface
does not give a warning that the library will be taken offline.

You can use the CSE port to upload microcode to the library as well as to run
diagnostics on the library and to download the FSC log.
Operation through the CSE port requires:

• An RJ-45 connector and CCITT cable (PN 410828901xx)*
• An RJ-45–DB9 adapter (PN 10410823) at the laptop connection*
