Configuring SCSI Options

Configuring SCSI Options

To support the LVD SCSI option, the factory ships the optional MPW card
separately from the library.
To install the MPW card and its accessories, refer to the instructions that
accompany the components in the shipping packages.

Changing Library SCSI Operating Options

The standard MPC/MPCL card (without the MPV or MPU card) is factory-
configured to:
• Supply terminating power
• Operate on a differential SCSI interface
You may change either or both of these options using the following procedures:

Selecting the Terminating Power Option

CAUTION:
Loss of data or degradation of performance: StorageTek recommends
that the library be at one end of the SCSI bus and that the devices at both
ends of the bus supply terminating power (TERMPWR = ON). This
recommendation is especially important if:
The library is some distance away from the server.
The library contains T9840 drives, and the library is daisy-chained
with the drives on the SCSI bus.
Industry standards advise that no more than three devices provide
terminating power to the bus.
The terminating power jumper is set to the ON position (library supplying
terminating power) at the factory.
The MPC/MPCL cards are set to high voltage differential operation at the
factory. You may change the operation to single-ended (for the MPC card) or
low voltage differential/single-ended (for the MPCL card) by changing the
jumper (J16) on the respective card.

MPC Card

To change a library containing an MPC card to single-ended operation:
1. Open the rear door by gently pulling on the finger slot.
2. Remove the 13 screws (Torx 25) that secure the electronics compartment.
3. Open the cable clamp on the library's Y-cable. This allows the Y-cable to
extend as you perform the next step.
