Loading Microcode
This appendix provides information about how to update the microcode or
firmware for the library. Library microcode is factory-installed on all new
machines and resides within a Flash PROM on the MPC/MPCL card.
Note: Within this appendix, microcode and firmware are used synonymously.
Firmware is the instructions or data that has been written into read-only-memory
(ROMs, PROMs and EPROMs).
Microcode is the instructions that directly control a microprocessor. A single
machine-language instruction typically translates into several microcode
instructions.
For new installations, a diskette or CD with current microcode is provided.
This appendix contains procedures for loading microcode:
• If there are problems with the microcode loaded at the factory
• If you need to update the code level during the installation
You can download currently supported microcode from the Multi-Platform
Support Services Web site at http://mpss.stortek.com/.
This site contains a matrix of the supported Automated Tape Solutions Library
and Tape Drive microcodes listed by product and includes the download file
and release notes.
You must have a personal computer and the following to download the
microcode to the MPC/MPCL card:
• An RJ-45 cable (PN 4108289xx)
• An RJ-45—DB9 adapter (PN 10410823) or
• CSE DOS Diagnostic cable (PN 24100134)
