Installing Rack-Mounted Components

CAUTION:
Potential equipment damage: Make sure to read and understand the
"Rack Safety and Precautions" on page xxix
components.
Heat within the rack area: Ensure that any equipment that you place
within the rack is adequately cooled. The library's internal ambient
temperature should not exceed the recommended operating
temperature. Base cooling considerations upon the power dissipation
within the rack space as well as upon the ambient room conditions that
are external to the library. You must provide cooling for moderate power
dissipation within the rack space. To assist in cooling the rack area, use
a conversion bill listed in
The rack area is not recommended for high power dissipation
components such as multiprocessor servers or disk arrays.
Observe these notes when installing rack-mounted Fibre Channel components:
• Make sure that Fibre Channel devices (such as a bridge, switch, or hub)
faces the front of the library to allow proper cable routing to the drives.
• Cables that exit a Fibre Channel device must follow the routing shown in
Figure 7-8 on page

Library Connection

CAUTION:
Potential network error: Do not connect the customer's Fibre Channel
cables to the library until after you have configured the library and the
tape drives in
For Fibre Channel connection to the library, you must install the compact PCI
bus (CPCI) component (MPV card), a Fibre Channel card (MPU card), and the
control-path strain relief.
