2. I N SPECT DI A GNOSI S ( N ORMAL MODE)
(a) Check the MIL.
(1) The MIL comes on when the ignition switch is turned

ON and the engine is not running.

If the MIL does not light up, troubleshoot the combination meter
(See page BE-2).
(2) When the engine is started, the MIL should go off.
If the lamp remains on, the diagnosis system has
detected a malfunction or abnormality in the sys­

tem.

al l DTCs and freeze frame data recorded I n normal mode.
So before swi t chi n g modes, al w ays check the DTCs and
freeze frame data, and note them down,
Prepare an OBD II scan tool (complying with
(1)
J1978) or TOYOTA hand-held lester.
(2) Connect the OBD II scan tool or TOYOTA hand­
held tester to DLC3 at the lower of the instrument
panel.
Turn the ignition switch ON and turn the OBD II scan

tool or TOYOTA hand-held tester switch
Use the OBD II scan tool or

tester to check the DTCs and freeze frame data and
note them down (For operating instructions, see the
080 II scan tool's instruction book).
