3.2 Checking Connections
The GPS module does not have enough satellites in view and is therefore not able to determine the
correct time. The cyclic synchronization can be absent for a settable time before the time is considered
faulted. As soon as a valid satellite signal is received, the clock error is reset:
(OFF) .
If the indication:
longer period of time, please send the device in for a check.
Further information can be found in the SIPROTEC 4 System Description.

The 7SC80 has its own default display page (page 3 or 7) which allows you to get a quick overview of the time
synchronization status via GPS. Additionally, 2 indications 6009
are provided which inform about the status of the GPS antenna and GPS time synchronization, thereby facili-
tating remote maintenance.
If the 7SC80 is used as NTP server, extensive information about GPS time synchronization is available. On the
last default display page (page 3 for devices without voltage transformers and page 7 for devices with voltage
transformers), date, UTC time, and local time are displayed. The UTC time is synchronized with the device time
once per minute. Furthermore, the number of currently received GPS satellites is displayed as well as the
current status of the satellite GPS time synchronization (Yes / No). The GPS antenna connection is monitored
and the connection state is displayed (no info/no connection/short-circuit/OK).
Checking the IRIG-B Time Synchronization
If the IRIG-B module includes a clock master, time synchronization might take several minutes.
If the time signal has not been detected yet, the time stamps preceding every indication are provided with a
question mark in the event list.
If an IRIG-B signal is applied and it corresponds to the supported telegram variants, time synchronization
should be detected within approx. 5 minutes. Detection of the time signal is reported with the indication
Clock SyncError (OFF) in the event list.
Additionally, the question mark is removed from the time stamp preceding every indication in the event list
and is replaced with a character corresponding to the relevant time information.
If the IRIG-B signal fails, the indication
settable time allowance has expired.
