2.23 Recloser Capacitor Test
The load impedance is disconnected externally from the capacitor bank and the capacitances are recharged. At
the same time, the recovery time 2803 Cap.recovery T is started to monitor the recharging time. The
default setting of the time is 10 sec. When the upper voltage threshold is reached, both signals 6002
>CapMon Input 1 and 6003 >CapMon Input 2 change to the logic state "1". If this signal change takes
place only after the monitoring time has expired, it can be assumed that the capacitances cannot be recharged
sufficiently. The signal 6006

Whereas, if the signal change takes place within the monitoring time, the test is assessed as passed and the
function changes to the monitoring of the idle state. No further indication is issued.

When a capacity test has been completed – successfully or not –, manual start via a binary input is only
permitted after 20 sec. have passed.
Interaction of Capacity Test and Battery Test
Capacity test and battery test are started cyclically, for example, once per week or month. The cycle times can
be selected separately. The condition of the recloser battery and the recloser capacitances are monitored.
Any deviation from the nominal condition is recognized and can be signaled. The capacity test and battery test
starts are mutually interlocked so that the two tests cannot be started simultaneously. Before the start of a
capacity test it is checked whether a battery test has been completed successfully and its recovery time has
already expired.
Attempt to start the capacity test while a battery test is running:
•
A manual start is ignored.
•
A cyclic start is only executed after the battery test has been completed.
Attempt to start the battery test while a capacity test is running:
•
A manual start is ignored.
•
A cyclic start is only executed in the next cycle.
The recloser capacity test is available in the device versions M15=A, B, or R. At least one free binary output and
two free binary inputs should be available for operation.
