INSPECTION
Check general condition of hoses and clamp tightness.
DRAINING SYSTEM
To drain
the
cooling system, remove the coolant tank
cap .
WARNING: Never drain or refill the cooling
sys-
tem when engine is hot.
Connect a drain hose to the drain valve at pump housing.
Open valve and drain system.

NOTE: Open end of drain hose should be lower
than engine base.
However, to completely drain the system, blow into the
tank through the vent tube while blocking the tank filler
neck with one hand to prevent air leakage
.

Apply pipe thread sealant to avoid leaks.

See
if
the cap pressurizes the system. If not, install a
new 13 Ibs cap, do not exceed 13 Ibs of pressure.

To check thermostat, put
it
in water and heat water.
Thermostat
should
open when water temperature reaches
50°C (122°Fl.
This thermostat is a "double
action
type":
A - Its function is to give a faster warm up of the engine
by provoking a circuit, water pump
-
engine
-
reser-
voir. This is done by closing the heat exchanger cir-
cuit.
B
-
When the liquid
is
warmed to 50°C (122°F), the
ther-
mostat opens the circuit, water pump - engine -heat
exchangers - reservoir to keep the liquid at the de-
sired temperature. (See the diagram on the first
page).
