should be within specified tolerance.
RING PISTON GROOVE CLEARANCE
MINIMUM - MAXIMUM (wear limit)
0.04 mm - 0.20 mm

Using a feeler gauge check clearance between rectan-
gular ring and groove . If clearance exceeds specified
tolerance, replace piston.

Position ring half way between transfer ports and intake
port. On rotary valve engines, position ring just below
transfer ports.
O NOTE: In order to correctly position the ring in the
cylinder, use piston as a pusher

Using a feeler gauge, check ring end gap. If gap ex-
ceeds specified tolerance the ring should be replaced.

Turn cranKshaft on "V" shaped blocks; using a dial indi-
cator measure deflection on each side as illustrated. If
deflection exceeds specified tolerance, the crankshaft
should be repaired or replaced.
