2.5.9 OPTION FEEDER

This printer has the Option 550 Feeder as an optional Feeder. The PAPER CASSETTE
installed in the optional feeders has the same functions as the standard PAPER
CASSETTE used on the base engine. Therefore, description of the PAPER
CASSETTE is omitted here.
OPT ASSY SIZE
This component is equipped with the switches that set the size of the sheet to be fed
from each PAPER CASSETTE. The signal for the setting size is transmitted to the
MCU of the HVPS/MCU in the form of a voltage.
ACTUATOR NO PAPER
When the sheets in the PAPER CASSETTE have been used up, the ACTUATOR NO
PAPER lowers. The flag of the ACTUATOR NO PAPER intercepting the light in the
slot of the SENSOR NO PAPER is dislocated from the intercepting position so that the
light transmission to the sensor is permitted.
SENSOR NO PAPER
The SENSOR NO PAPER detects the presence/absence of paper in the PAPER
CASSETTE by the position of the ACTUATOR NO PAPER and converts the result of
detection into an electric signal. When the light to the sensor is intercepted (when paper
is present), the No-Paper Feed550 SNR ON signal turns OFF.
ACTUATOR LOW PAPER
When the paper in the PAPER CASSETTE is running short, the arm of the
ACTUATOR LOW PAPER is pushed up by the PLATE ASSY BTM. The flag of the
ACTUATOR LOW PAPER intercepting the light in the slot of the SENSOR LOW
PAPER is dislocated from the intercepting position so that the light transmission to the
sensor is permitted.
SENSOR LOW PAPER
The SENSOR LOW PAPER detects a shortage of paper in the PAPER CASSETTE by
the position of the ACTUATOR LOW PAPER and converts the result of detection into
an electric signal. When the light to the sensor is intercepted (when enough paper is
present), the Low-Paper Feed550 SNR ON signal turns OFF.
Operating Principles
550 FEEDER OPTION
This mechanism supplies paper from the Paper Cassette to the printer. The driving
force from the MOTOR FEEDER is transmitted to the ROLL ASSY FEED and ROLL
ASSY NUDGER via the CLUTCH ASSY PH to transport paper.
As the amount of paper has decreased as a result of picking up of several sheets by the
ROLL ASSY NUDGER, the roll lowers accordingly. The lowered ROLL ASSY
NUDGER pushes down the lock lever of the PLATE ASSY BTM to the release
position, so that the PLATE ASSY BTM gets pushed up by the spring and
simultaneously the sheets get also raised. The raised paper lifts the SUPPORT
NUDGER so that the SUPPORT NUDGER separates from the lock lever of the
PLATE ASSY BTM, which stops rising.
ROLL ASSY TURN
This roll transports the paper, which was conveyed by the ROLL ASSY NUDGER and
ROLL ASSY FEED, into the printer. Driven from the MOTOR FEEDER via the
CLUTCH PR-REGI, the ROLL ASSY TURN transports paper into the printer in
conjunction with the ROLL PINCH TURN.
PWBA FEEDER550
The PWBA FEEDER550, incorporating a CPU, receives commands from the HVPS/
MCU and information from sensors and switches and controls paper feeding operation
in the OPTION 550 FEEDER.
The CPU mounted on the PWBA FEEDER uses flash ROM so that the firmware can
be rewritten by communication.
