The absorber canister is filled with fresh soda lime. The soda lime scrubs
CO2 from the respiratory expired gas.
Expired soda lime changes its color. The soda lime must be replaced when
two thirds of the soda lime in the absorber canister is discolored.
The ventilator is located in a swing-out compartment at the left side of the
Fabius Tiro. A hose terminal is provided on the left side of the compartment
for connection to the breathing system. Fresh gas is delivered to the patient
by a piston that is driven by a motor and ball-screw arrangement. A sight win-
dow on the compartment allows the operator to verify movement of the pis-
ton.
