2 Preparing the Mass Spectrometer for
Operation
In preparing the instrument for operation, you must perform these tasks:
• Start the instrument.
• Verify the instrument's state of readiness.
• Monitor the instrument's functions.
• Prepare the Fluidics system.
Apart from preparing the instrument, you must know how to put it in Standby mode and how to
shut it down on an emergency basis, when necessary.

2.1 Starting the mass spectrometer

Starting the mass spectrometer entails powering on the workstation and all components of the
system.
Important:
To avoid damage to the instrument caused by incompatible solvents, refer to the
following sources:
Solvents used to prepare mobile phases (Page 200)
• The relevant ACQUITY UPLC system operator's guide or system guide, for solvent
compatibility with ACQUITY devices.
Requirement:

To start the mass spectrometer:
1. Ensure that all external connections to the mass spectrometer are made, as detailed in
External Connections (Page

3. Power-on the Vion IMS QTof at the power outlet.
4. Power-on the ACQUITY instruments.
