Glossary
ACI: Advanced Concept Incubation. This refers to Jamesway's single-stage incubation equipment.
Display Panel: A display panel allows the operator to view or change parameters of any machine
connected to the network. Once a parameter has been changed, it is updated on all display panels. A
machine can carry on without any intervention from the display panel.
Fiber Optics: A light conducting medium used for interconnecting display panels and machine
controllers. This medium is immune to electric or magnetic disturbances. The fiber optic hubs are
distribution points for the data that passes through it, and also amplifies the light signal.
Hall Effect Sensors: The sensors on the damper sense board which are sensitive to a magnetic field. The
magnet on the damper drive block assembly excites the closest sensors, from which the controller can
determine the damper position.
Intelligent Sensing Module (ISM): The unit located inside the machine which measures the
environmental temperature and humidity. It contains an integral microprocessor which performs the
measurements and communicates to the machine controller using a serial connection.
Machine Controller: The silver box sitting on top of the machine. It oversees all environmental functions
of the incubator or hatcher. Its status can be viewed or changed from any display panel connected to
the network. The machine controller can continue normal operation even if it loses communication to
the network (although the operator will not be able to view or change the machine operation).
Power Interface Module (PIM): The circuit board at the bottom of the machine controller box. Its part
number is PTA415, PTA416 or PTA417, depending on the machine type. This board contains the
relays that drive the damper motor, egg turn solenoid, and water valves.
Profile: A program which contains setpoint changes that occur at specific times during an incubation
cycle. A profile can contain up to 30 setpoint changes, which can be programmed to occur at times
with resolution of 0.01 days (approx. 15 minutes). The machine resets the 'day in cycle' to zero when a
profile is started, and makes the appropriate setpoint changes when the day in cycle reaches the next
point in the profile.
Versatile Interface Controller (VIC): This is the microprocessor board which is mounted on top of the
PIM board in the machine controller. It has the part number PTA410 for machine controller, or PTA411
for display panels.
