This dialog box is similar to the
one displayed when a printer
error occurs (see page 52)
except for an additional choice
allowing the printer to be reset.
The 'Stop Printing' should be
used to cancel a print job
because it attempts to clean up
everything before stopping the
print job. The display needs to
be able to send data to the
printer to do this, thus the
printer needs to be online. To
force a print job to be canceled
even if the printer has an error,
the 'Stop & Reset Printer'

Figure 183: Send Stop Printing

option will remove the print job
from memory, resetting the printer in the process. Note: Resetting the printer will cause the printer to use
the current paper position as the 'Top of Form', therefore the operator will have to realign the paper. Refer
to the printer manual for instructions.
Printing on the Sentry System: The display panel has the capability to send data to the printer while the
operator uses the display for other functions, this is called background printing. While printing is in
progress the operator may freely move around in the menu structure and invoke any function, but no
other print job can be started, an error message will be shown if this happens. Auto reports will be
skipped if the printer is in use when it is time for such a report.
To make printing more efficient, the display panel buffers data, which has to be sent to the printer before
the print job can be stopped, otherwise the printer is left in an undesirable state. This is why when a
printer error occurs, a print job will remain active after stopping it. A print job may be suspended
temporarily by placing the printer offline, which causes the printer error dialog box to appear on the
screen. Printing is resumed by putting the printer back online and choosing the 'Continue Printing'
option.
The printer should not be turned off while it is printing because when it is turned back on, the display
panel will resume the print job, possibly producing random characters to appear on the printed page. If
power is turned off while printing, use the 'Stop & Reset Printer' function before turning the printer
back on.
