Fibre Channel cables connect the blades to the Symmetrix and VNX arrays through
FC/FCoE switches. Each blade has two Fibre Channel ports that must be connected
to both storage processors of the VNX array.
The Fibre Channel cables have not been connected.
Different switches use different cable connectors. The supplied optical cables always
have LC connectors on both ends. If the customer's switch needs different connectors,
additional cables may have been ordered.
The cabling and zoning rules for a VNX gateway system are minimum requirements.
You can have additional paths between the array and the blades, but you must
observe the following blade limits:
16 paths per LUN for Symmetrix storage arrays

8 paths per LUN for VNX storage arrays

4 paths per LUN is recommended for most configurations

Arrange the cables so that a failed component can be removed without disconnecting
other cables.
Use small form-factor pluggable (SFP) modules in the SP and I/O module ports to
connect the Fibre Channel cables (see
The Fibre Channel connections from the blades to the switch or switches are always
the same, regardless of the array to which you are connecting. Two switches are
recommended for highest availability.

The four-port Fibre Channel I/O module has two module types:
4 Gb/s supporting fibre speeds of 1, 2, or 4 Gb/s

8 Gb/s supporting fibre speeds of 2, 4, or 8 Gb/s

The two-port FCoE I/O module supports fibre speeds of up to 10 GB/s.
Verify that the switch ports are configured for auto-negotiation (see switch
documentation for steps to configure auto-negotiation). The FC/FCoE ports
automatically adjust to the appropriate rate, depending on the rate of the attached
client.
If the blades fail to boot from the array, you may have to manually force the Fibre
Channel speed setting. If you must do this, set the switch ports to the highest speed
(1 Gb, 2 Gb, 4 Gb, or 8 Gb) the switch can support.
