Refer to the steps in the cylinder head removal and installation procedure to properly time the
camshaft.

Install the valve cover.
15.
Connect the negative battery cable.
16.
Start the engine and check for leaks.
RIGHT−HAND CAMSHAFT
1.
Disconnect the negative battery cable for safety.
2.
Remove the RH valve cover.
3.
Remove the RH hydraulic camshaft tensioner.
The RH camshaft sprocket bolt uses left−hand threads.
4.
Using the Cam Gear Torque Adapter Tool T97T−6256−F, or its equivalent, remove the camshaft
sprocket bolt.
When removing the followers, label them so that they may be returned to their original positions.
5.
Using the Valve Spring Compressor Tool ST150−A, or its equivalent, remove the camshaft roller
followers.
6.
Remove the camshaft bearing cap bolts and the oil rail.
7.
Remove the camshaft.
To install:

Lubricate all of the moving parts with SAE 50W engine oil.
9.
Install the camshaft onto the cylinder head.
10.
Position the oil rail and install the bearing caps and bolts. Tighten the bolts in two stages.
1.
Stage 1: 53.5 inch lbs. (6 Nm)
2.
Stage 2: 11−12.5 ft. lbs. (15−17 Nm)

Install the camshaft followers in the same manner as removal.

Install the camshaft sprocket bolt. Do not tighten the bolt.
13.
Refer to the steps in the cylinder head removal and installation procedure to properly time the
camshaft.
14.
Install the valve cover.
15.
Connect the negative battery cable.
16.
Start the engine and check for leaks.
5.0L Engine
1.
Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2.
Remove the timing chain cover.
3.
Remove the camshaft sprocket and chain assembly.
4.
Remove the upper and lower intake manifolds.
5.
Remove both valve covers.
6.
Loosen the rocker arm bolts and rotate the rocker arms to the side.
7.
Remove the pushrods in sequence so that they may be installed to their original positions.
8.
Remove all of the lifters, also keeping them in order.
9.
Remove the camshaft thrust plate bolts and the plate.
