4.0L SOHC Engine (VIN E)
Remove the followers (2) using the valve spring compressor tool (1)
4.0L SOHC camshaft bearing cap bolt loosening and tightening sequence
LEFT−HAND CAMSHAFT
1.
Disconnect the negative battery cable for safety.
2.
Remove the LH valve cover.
3.
Remove the LH hydraulic camshaft tensioner.
4.
Remove the camshaft sprocket bolt.
When removing the followers, label them so that they may be returned to their original positions.
5.
Using the Valve Spring Compressor Tool ST150−A, or its equivalent, remove the camshaft roller
followers.
6.
Remove the camshaft bearing cap bolts and the oil rail.
7.
Remove the camshaft.
To install:

Lubricate all of the moving parts with SAE 50W engine oil.
9.
Install the camshaft onto the cylinder head.
10.
Position the oil rail and install the bearing caps and bolts. Tighten the bolts in two stages.
1.
Stage 1: 53.5 inch lbs. (6 Nm)
2.
Stage 2: 11−12.5 ft. lbs. (15−17 Nm)
11.
Install the camshaft followers in the same manner as removal.
12.
Install the camshaft sprocket bolt. Do not tighten the bolt.
