MPS 1000 System Hardware Overview

Optional Switch/Router

The addition of a Avaya Passport series 8000 switch is generally used to provide an enhanced
network environment. The switch is configured with dual 8 port 1 GHz Ethernet cards, dual CPU
cards, one 48 Port 10/100 Ethernet port card, and triple redundant power supplies for added
reliability.
Connecting to an external power source
This switch requires three power cords, with NEMA L5-20P or L6-20P for AC systems. AC and DC
connections for this device connect directly to external power due to the current specifications. The
internal power supplies are protected by circuit breakers and do not derive power from the cabinet
Power Distribution Units (PDU).
Connecting to an FE PDU
You can connect an ERS (Passport) power supply to an FE PDU using a line cord. This line cord
has an IEC 60320-C13 (right angle) connector on one end and an IEC 60320-C20 on the other. The
IEC 60320-C13 (right angle) connects to the ERS (Passport) power supply.
The line cord option is only applicable on systems with three FE PDU. You must use the line cord
listed: IEC 60320-C13 (right angle) connector on one end (which connects to the ERS (Passport)
power supply) and an IEC 60320-C20 on the other end.
Caution:
Power connectivity rules for redundancy are unchanged from those for direct power connection.
Two of the three power supplies must be connected to different power sources to achieve
maximum survivability in the event of a power loss.

Console/Keyboard Sharing

The MPS system is supplied with either an IBM KVM (Keyboard/Video/ Mouse) console or a
Centerpoint KVM with an integrated 16 Port Switch. The KVM has an integrated 15 inch LCD
monitor with a keyboard and mouse supplied in a one rack unit (RU) slide-out assembly.
The servers are connected by a set of control cables that allow them to share the common console.
Refer to the MPS Speech Server 6.0.1 Reference Guide for connection instructions.
Select the server displayed on the monitor with keystrokes or by pressing the select switch on the
front of the desired server.

Multiple Cabinet Console Sharing

An optional Console Switch can facilitate console and keyboard sharing between multiple cabinets.
When sharing is implemented, the terminating server in each cabinet must be cabled to the Console
Switch.
