The TMS PLL can generate alarms due to the following conditions:
1. incorrect PLL configuration in tms.cfg file
2. span in sync list not in service or other span problems
3. TMS not receiving sync list configuration from NIC/NCD
4. system clocks not distributed in multi-chassis system (see NIC PLL)
Troubleshooting
1. Verify system clock configuration in tms.cfg file is correct for installation
2. Verify that the spans selected in the sync list are in service. The Alarm log contains a history
of faults.
3. Use NCD to isolate the source of the fault, using the commands from the tms-common
component of a vsh (see NCD PLL diagnostics)
TMS Temperature
Each TMS has a thermal chip monitored by the controlling NIC of the chassis. Two alarm thresholds
are defined for the TMS temperature; the low threshold generates a minor alarm while the high
generates a major alarm. The low temperature threshold is an early warning of a problem with the
TMS card. if the problem is resolved before the temperature passes the high temperature threshold,
the TMS operation is not affected.
The software monitoring the TMS temperature does not generate an alarm for a spurious
temperature value. If the card temperature passes the high threshold, TMS operation can become
unreliable and eventually cause physical damage to the card.
The following modules can be affected:
• TMS hardware
• NIC
• Power Supplies
The TMS temperature can generate alarms due to the following conditions:
1. improper ventilation
2. faulty thermal chip or A/D on TMS
3. hardware fault corrupting the NICs ability to access card temperature
4. incorrect conversion for temperature chip on TMS (cardtypes.cfg)
Troubleshooting
Use the NCD chassisinfo command to retrieve the TMS and power supply temperature. Then
determine the course of action. A faulty A/D reports an unusually high (> 200 deg c) or low (< 50
deg c) temperature.
