Installing Hardware and Connectivity

Single Site Installations

This is a common configuration and forms the basis for most other network configurations. In a
single-site installation, all MPS 1000 systems and the associated MPS Manager workstation are at
the same physical site. Further, MPS Manager and the MPS 1000 systems are within the LAN
distance limits (that is, approximately 1000 feet or 300 meters).
A typical single-site installation with a single MPS Manager system is shown in the following
illustration.

In general, the MPS 1000 system LAN must be maintained as a separate network segment
whenever practical. If you must (due to physical location or cabling constraints) connect the MPS
Manager Server to a shared (or other site wide) Ethernet LAN with other devices, use a network
bridge or a router-type device to connect the MPS 1000 LANs to the site network. Connecting
through a bridge or router ensures no adverse maintenance or performance issues, either for the
MPS 1000 LAN or for the common shared LAN. This configuration is shown in the following
illustration.
