Configuration

Debug Terminal Connection

Establish a connection to the serial port on the front of the TMS or DCC to verify the TMS boot ROM
and other diagnostic operations, see
asynchronous RS232 interface with an 8-pin DIN connector. The interface is configured with the
following parameters:
• Baud rate is 9600 bps.
• Character size is set to 8.
• Stop bits is set to 1.
• Parity is set to 1.
You can connect using a dumb terminal, PC or laptop. You can also establish a session from the
system console.

Connect Using a Dumb Terminal or PC

Connect the dumb terminal to the TMS or DCC port using a serial port adapter cable. You can also
us a DB25 to 8-pin DIN cable and a null modem adapter.
Use the same cables to connect a PC or laptop by connecting the DB25 connector to one of the
serial port connectors. If your PC has a DB9 (9-pin) serial connector also use a DB9 to DB25
adapter/cable (commercially available).
The COM assignment of the port used must be determined and some configuration necessary. The
connection is established using the HyperTerminal utility included with all versions of Microsoft
Windows. If HyperTerminal is not installed, install it from the Windows CD using the Windows setup
tab in the Add/Remove Programs dialog box in the Control Panel. HyperTerminal is included under
the Communications utilities.

Connect from the System Console

If a terminal, PC, or laptop is not available, you can use the system console or workstation to
establish a telnet connection to the desired port using the Solaris tip command.
1. Log on to the system as (or change user to) root:
su Password: <root password>
2. Determine if the system is configured as required. If the system is not configured as follows,
the system console cannot be used to open a tip session.
a. Change directory (cd) to /dev/term and check (ls -al) for symbolic links to device ports a
and b.
