LEDs 0 and 1 are activity indicators that blink or toggle to indicate the sequence is proceeding.
LEDs 14 and 15 are error indicators and either one can light to indicate an error during the startup
sequence. LEDs 2 through 13 indicate the test or portion of the startup process performed at one
given time. They light, in numerical order, during the startup sequence as described in the table
Table 8: Boot Sequence Diagnostics for TMS
You do not need a binary conversion for the sequence as you do with the NIC card. See
Startup LED Sequence
Some LEDs depend on the boot ROM settings for the TMS. It is not necessary to connect a debug
terminal to observe the LEDs or perform or diagnostics; however, if the current settings are not
known and need to be verified, see
If the system displays an error, retry the task. You can have a problem if:
• the error LEDs indicate an error
• an activity LED is steadily on or off
• a test hangs up
• a test runs for much longer than the expected time (for example, more than twice as long)
You do not need a detailed understanding of each task in the sequence to diagnose system
problems. If the LEDs indicate that multiple corrective actions are needed, perform the tasks in the
order listed and retest after each task until the system boots normally. If the recommended solutions
fail to correct the problem, contact Avaya Technical Support or Field Service.

Verifying and Modifying Boot ROM Settings
Description of Task or Error
DRAM write and immediate readback/
verify test. This LED tests only the
onboard SIMM ability to retain data.
Activity LED switches on or off for each
MB of memory tested (that is, 1 MB on
and 1 MB off).
DRAM write/read test failed.
DRAM readback and verify test. Reads
back pattern that was written in previous
test, then writes all 0s. Also tests
address bus and memory size. Only the
onboard SIMM ability to retain data.

Corrective Actions for Errors
• Remove and replace failed
memory SIMM on board TMS.
• If the error persists, remove and
replace the TMS. (Reinstall the
original SIMM on failed the TMS
and tag for logistics disposition.)
