To set up the Connection watchdog
Do as follows:
1. Under Advanced, select Connection watchdog.
2. Select Enable Connection watchdog.
3. At Ping interval (seconds) select the interval in seconds between the ping
commands on the BGAN connection.
• Minimum interval is 4 seconds, default is 300 seconds (5 minutes).
• Depending on the Ping mode (step 8), this interval is the time from last ping or
from last transmission.
4. Select the Number of retries on the BGAN connection.
• The number of retries applies to each of the listed IP addresses (step 9). This is
the number of times that the terminal will retry after a ping has failed.
• The time between the retries on the BGAN connection is set to 20 seconds.
• 20 seconds after the stated number of retries on an IP address, the next IP
address on the list is pinged with the same number of retries.
5. At Ping interval - cellular (seconds) select the interval in seconds between the
ping commands on the cellular connection.
• Minimum interval is 3 seconds.
6. At Number of retries - cellular select the number of retries on the cellular
connection.
• The number of retries applies to each of the listed IP addresses (step 9). This is
the number of times that the terminal will retry after a ping has failed.
• The time between the retries is set in the next step (Ping interval after failure -
cellular)
• After the stated number of retries on an IP address (plus the interval defined in
step 7), the next IP address on the list is pinged with the same number of retries.
7. At Ping interval after failure - cellular (seconds), type in the number of seconds
between pings after a ping failure. The interval can be from 3 to 255 seconds,
default is 20 seconds.
8. Select the Ping mode.
• Ping always:
• Ping when no traffic:
9. Type in the Primary and optionally the Secondary and Tertiary IP address. This is
the IP address of the server(s) to which the terminal will send ping commands.
Note
10. Click Save.
Note
1. This setting only applies to BGAN - the cellular connection will always ping,,
regardless of data traffic.
98-148232-K
Always send ping, regardless of data traffic
Send ping only if no data traffic is ongoing
Use a server that is reliable and that responds to ICMP Echo Requests.
When the Connection watchdog settings are saved the terminal ends any
active connections. If ACA is enabled the BGAN connection restarts
automatically.
