ACA
Automatic Context Activation.
AMBE
Advanced Multi-Band Excitation. A speech coding standard.
APN
Access Point Name. The Access Point Name is used by the terminal operator to
establish the connection to the required destination network.
AT commands A command set used for controlling modems.
B
BeiDou
Chinese satellite navigation system.
BGAN
Broadband Global Area Network. A satellite network based on geostationary
satellites, delivering broadband data and telephony to virtually any part of the earth,
with full UMTS.
C
C1D2
Class 1 Division 2 (C1D2) is a certification issued to a specific product that allows it to
be used in potentially hazardous environments.
CE
Conformité Européenne. This term signifies that a CE certified product conforms to
European health, environmental, and safety regulations. In short, it makes the
product legal to be sold in the European Union.
CS
Circuit Switched. Circuit-switched networks require dedicated point-to-point
connections during calls.
D
DHCP
Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. A protocol for assigning dynamic IP addresses
to devices on a network. With dynamic addressing, a device can have a different IP
address every time it connects to the network.
Dual mode
A mode where the EXPLORER 540 is used with 2 WAN networks - cellular network as
primary connection and BGAN satellite network as backup.
E
ECEF
The Earth-Centered Earth-Fixed or conventional terrestrial coordinate system
rotates with the Earth and has its origin at the center of the Earth. The X axis passes
through the equator at the prime meridian. The Z axis passes through the north pole
but it does not exactly coincide with the instantaneous Earth rotational axis. The Y
axis can be determined by the right-hand rule to be passing through the equator at
90 degrees longitude.
EIRP
Effective Isotropically-Radiated Power. The amount of power that would have to be
emitted by an isotropic antenna (that evenly distributes power in all directions) to
produce the peak power density observed in the direction of maximum antenna
gain.
