4.15.3 To set up an external cellular modem
If you are using an external cellular modem, set up the EXPLORER 540 as follows:
1. Set up the external modem according to the modem documentation.
2. In the EXPLORER 540 web interface, select
and locate Connection.
3. Select connection mode External modem preferred or External modem
preferred (PRISM).

5. Type in the External modem IP address.
6. Type in the IP addresses of the primary and secondary DNS.
• External modem DNS1 IP address: IP address of the primary DNS.
• External modem DNS2 IP address: IP address of the secondary DNS.
If you only have one DNS IP address, enter the same IP address for DNS1 and DNS2.
7. Click Save.

9. If the connection mode is External modem preferred (PRISM), set up the PRISM
parameters as described in PRISM/WAN switching on page 4-55.

If you are using an external modem without PRISM, set up the
Connection watchdog to monitor the connection. Otherwise the
terminal will not be able to detect if the cellular connection is lost,
and consequently will not switch over to BGAN backup. See
Connection watchdog (Link monitoring) on page 4-34.
(Control panel) > Advanced > External cellular modem.
If you already have an external modem running on a different IP address,
you have to reboot the terminal to reset the IP routing.
