4.16.1 To set up PRISM
If you are going to use PRISM you must first install the PRISM server software from
Cobham SATCOM, set up the server and then set up the EXPLORER 540.
• For general information on PRISM, see EXPLORER 540 operation in Cellular modem
preferred (PRISM) mode and External modem preferred (PRISM) mode on page 4-62.
• For details on setup with cellular modem, see To set up the EXPLORER 540 for
cellular operation on page 4-49 and To set up an external cellular modem on page 4-
54.
To configure the EXPLORER 540 for PRISM, do as follows:
1. Configure the cellular modem settings as described in the previous pages.
Remember to set the connection mode to a PRISM mode in the Terminal settings
page.
2. Select
You can see the Currently configured mode at the top of the page.
The Terminal ID is used to identify the EXPLORER 540 on the PRISM server.
3. In the PRISM server settings section, type the following for the primary and
(optionally) the secondary server
• Shared authentication key. This key must be identical to the key entered in the
PRISM server. Note that the (optional) secondary server must have a different
key than the primary server.
• IP address of the PRISM server.
• Server port number (default 6666).
4. In the PRISM terminal settings section, type a Connection test IP address
(optional).
This is an optional test server address used to check the data connection if the
PRISM server is not responding.
Important
The test IP address is used in the following way:
If BGAN link mode is set to Always connected:
• If the PRISM server connection fails on both the cellular and BGAN link (or if the
BGAN link cannot be connected), a maximum of 5 pings are sent to the test IP
address on the physical links.
• If no ping responses are received on the test IP address neither on the cellular
nor the BGAN link, the terminal will reboot immediately.
Important
1. Specifying a secondary PRISM server is optional. The secondary server will be used if
a connect sequence to the primary PRISM server fails (after both primary/cellular link
and secondary/BGAN link have been connected or link connect has failed). If a test
ping IP server has been specified, a switch to the secondary server also requires a
successful ping response from the test server.

(Control panel) and then PRISM/WAN switching.
This address must be different from the PRISM server address(es) and
be able to respond to ping commands, e.g. the Google DNS server
8.8.8.8.
Make sure you have a valid test IP address - if not, the terminal will
keep rebooting every time the test ping fails after a failed PRISM server
connection!
