2-32 Compaq ServerNet II PCI Adapter and Switch Installation Guide
Creating a
Switchless SAN Topology
Creating a switchless SAN topology has similarities and differences to other node
configurations:
Unlike primary node configuration, a switchless configuration requires no Switch
I
port number entry.
Unlike primary and end node configuration, you do not add nodes to the configuration
I
using the ServerNet II Administrative Utility
In verifying connections, there are no LEDs to check or diagnostics to run.
I
IMPORTANT: Before you configure the nodes, you should know what naming convention you want to
use. You may also want to have available a diagram of your SAN topology.
Steps 1-2 describe how to install the Adapter and connect
the cables.
1. Install the Adapters in the PCI slots of two ProLiant servers. See the ServerNet II
Hardware and Configuration poster for information.
2. Connect the cables between the two Adapters, X-port to X-port and Y-port to Y-port.
Steps 3-7 describe how to load the drivers on the Adapter.
3. Power on the node. When Windows 2000 detects the new device, the Found New
Hardware Wizard automatically appears, as shown below:
NOTE: If the Windows 2000 Wizard fails to appear, right click on My Computer and select Properties.
Select the Hardware tab and then click the Device Manager button. From the list that appears, select
Other Options, then Network Controller. Click Reinstall driver. The Upgrade Device Wizard appears. Select
Search for a suitable driver for my device, then locate the driver on the ServerNet II CD.
