Overview

Chapter 2 guides you through the creation of a Switched, dual-fabric System Area Network
(SAN), which is only one of several possible SAN topologies. (See the section "SAN
Topologies" in Chapter 1 of this guide for illustrations of other topologies.)
Then, you are shown the step-by-step creation of a switchless SAN topology. At the end of the
chapter, other software procedures are described, including uninstalling and modifying
applications, upgrading drivers, running OnLine Diagnostics, and installing Compaq Windows
Sockets Direct SAN Service Provider. Also included is information about installing Microsoft
Terminal Services Client drivers.

Prerequisites

Before starting the ServerNet II installation, the following conditions should be met:
You have already designed and know your ServerNet II SAN topology

Your ProLiant servers are running Microsoft Windows 2000
I
You have completed the Configuration Worksheet in Appendix M
I
You have installed the ServerNet II Adapters in the servers (without attaching any cables

between the Adapters and servers). Installation instructions are found in the hardware and
configuration posters packaged with the Adapter.
Label the cables but do not connect them until instructed to do so in the installation
