Installing the Drivers and Configuring the Primary Node
(New Installations)
We recommend in the ServerNet II PCI Adapter Hardware Installation and Configuration
poster that you install only one Adapter at a time and that you connect the cables between the
Adapter and Switch only when instructed to do so. (If you want to read ahead, this happens after
you install the Adapter drivers and in the section "Installing ServerNet II Applications and
Utilities.") This will help ensure a successful installation and help reduce possible errors.
As you power up each ProLiant server, Microsoft Windows 2000 will automatically detect the
ServerNet II PCI Adapter and guide you through the driver installation. The drivers are located
on the ServerNet II CD. The next sections describe these steps.
Steps 1-6 describe how to install the drivers.
1. Power on the primary administrative node (the node from which to administer the nodes
and Switches in the SAN). When Windows 2000 detects the new device (the ServerNet II
Adapter, the Found New Hardware Wizard automatically appears:
NOTE: Should the Windows 2000 Wizard fail to appear, right click on My Computer and select
Properties. Select the Hardware tab and then click the Device Manager button. From the list that
appears, select Other Options, then Network Controller. Click Reinstall driver. The Upgrade Device Wizard
appears. Select Search for a suitable driver for my device and then locate the driver on the
ServerNet II CD.
