2. SOFTWARE LICENSE

2.1
As of v8.0, you can control the device capacity and feature availability of the system
through a software license. All CPCs and v8.0 installations require a software license, which
differs based on the CPU type, as described below.
A CPC-Single (64) or CPC-Dual (128 or 256) requires a single software license.
A 512-CPU, 1024-CPU (CPU/PCM-F), or CPU-ATM (PCM-A) system requires a Call
Processing (CP) Server that has a special security key (part no. 827.9775) that supports
the software license functionality. The software license is stored on the CP Server PC
and works only with the individual special security key.
NOTE:
longer detects PALs, you do not need to upgrade the ATM PALs.

A. SYSTEMS AND SOFTWARE LICENSES
2.3
CPCs and CP Servers are distributed without a software license and are defaulted to a
CPC64 for the CPC and to a 512 for the CP Server. Because the product supports AKSCs and
EKSCs, these cards are not auto-equipped.
2.4
If the system does not have a software license, the Minor Alarm LED flashes. In addi-
tion, Alarms 125 and 225 are generated and sent to Message Print and the System Administra-
tor's phone. These alarms are generated every five minutes, and the system resets every four
hours until the license issue is resolved. See
alarms.
B. CPU TYPES
2.5
If Database (DB) Programming connects to a system with a valid software license, you
cannot restore a database that would invalidate the license. For example, if the system cur-
rently has a software license that supports a 512 system, you cannot restore a 128 database. If
you need to change the CPU type or product type, you must first upload a new software license
(see
page 7-105
C. PREMIUM FEATURES
2.6
Premium features are no longer controlled by the number of available feature units;
they are controlled by the software license. Because of this, you cannot restore a database with
premium features that are not licensed. If you attempt to restore a database that has more pre-
mium features than the software license reflects, a warning message appears before the restore
occurs. When this message appears, you must cancel the restore.
NOTE:
ware license you request has the correct premium features enabled/disabled. See
more details about upgrading a current system.
2.7
Because the software license dictates the premium features that are enabled/disabled,
you can no longer enable/disable premium features in DB Programming in remote mode. If
you need to add premium features, you must acquire a new license.
