DTMF Receiver Allocations
4.24 It is possible to have more call traffic than the standard system DTMF receivers (two on
a PCM card; six on a PCMA card) can process efficiently. If DTMF receiver circuits are often
busy (e.g., single-line set users are experiencing a delay in receiving dial tone), it may be nec-
essary to install an Options Card and equip it with optional DSPs programmed as DTMF
receivers. (See
DKSC-16+, which has four available DTMF receivers.
NOTE:
E&M (for the U.S. only), DISA, automated attendant, CO call continuation, etc. are used. They
are in use only while the dialed number is being processed, not for the duration of the call.
External Paging Ports
4.25 As many external paging ports as desired can be used for connecting external paging
speaker equipment. Each external paging port can be connected to an available LGC or LSC
circuit or to the speaker wires on a phone. In addition, the CPU card and CPC each has its own
dedicated external paging port (see

amplifier that provides talk battery. When connecting external paging equipment to a phone or to
the CPU card or CPC, use a paging amplifier that DOES NOT provide talk battery.
Using a paging amplifier with talk battery on a phone may damage the phone or the Digital
Keyset Card.
Music Source
4.26 If desired, external music sources may be connected to the system for background
music and music-on-hold. The music jacks on the CPU card, CPC, and OPC are the inputs for
the optional external music sources (radio, tape player, etc.). The music source connected to
the primary CPU or CPC can be used for music-on-hold and/or background music. However,
the music sources connected to the secondary CPU and Options Cards can only be used for
music-on-hold.
4.27 The music-on-hold input circuitry on the CPUs, CPCs, and OPCs are high-impedance
inputs (8.7K ohm). This allows a connection to any audio device with an output impedance of
4 - 8.7 ohms. In addition, the music-on-hold inputs are rated at 1 volt RMS. If the input power
exceeds this rating, the audio may be distorted. Because of this, Inter-Tel recommends limiting
the input power to 1 Watt.
4.28 In an ATM-based system, the CPU board in equipment chassis 1 is the default source
for music-on-hold. This CPU is also the only available source for background music.
4.29 The system software supports multiple music-on-hold sources, using the "Music 2"
jacks on the Options Cards and the music jacks on the CPUs or CPCs.
NOTE:
