REMOVAL
CYLINDER HEAD

1. Remove the intake manifold mounting bolts and nuts, and
remove the intake manifold and gasket.
2. Remove the exhaust manifold mounting nuts and washers,
and remove the exhaust manifold and gasket.
3. Remove cylinder head bolts in sequence as shown in illus-
tration by using special tool (09221-32001).
4. Remove cylinder head and gasket from cylinder block.

Cylinder head flatness:
Standard dimension Less than 0.05 mm (0.002 in.)
Service limit 0.2 mm (0.008 in.)
1. Remove scale, sealing compound and carbon deposits com-
pletely. After cleaning oil passages, apply compressed air to
make certain that the passages are not clogged.
2. Visually check the cylinder head for cracks, damage or water
leakage.
3. Check the cylinder head gasket surface for flatness with a
straight edge and feeler as shown in illustration.

Intake and Exhaust Manifolds
1. Visually check the manifold for cracks or damage.
2. Check the EGR gas passage and water passage of intake
manifold for clogging and clean if necessary.
CAUTION
Apply sealant around the four oil drain holes of the
cylinder head gasket as shown in illustration to improve
the sealing effectiveness.
1. Clean both gasket surfaces of cylinder head and cylinder
block.
2. Confirm identification mark on cylinder head gasket.
3. Direct gasket surface having identification mark toward cyl-
inder head.
