Configure network services
Source
This drop-down selection menu selects the source that supplies time data for the SNTP server.
The usual options are:
Internal real time clock (RTC) device
A GPS module (if supported)
An NTP client (if supported)
Enable Secure Shell Server (SSH / SFTP)
When enabled, the router uses Secure Shell Server (SSH) and Secure File Transfer Protocol
(SFTP) for entering commands and transferring files. The simplest way to check the status or
configuration of the router or to upload new firmware is to use the command-line interface over
a directly connected ASY port or via a telnet session. Both of these options have security
implications. If you want to gain access to the command line interface of the router but using a
more secure protocol, enabling this setting enables a secure shell to start. This option also
enables support for SFTP for secure file transfers.
Enable FTP Server
When enabled, the router uses File Transfer Protocol (FTP) for file transfers.
Enable HTTP Server
When enabled, the router uses HTTP, or insecure web server. You can perform most router
configuration using the HTTP web server as described here. However, HTTP is an insecure
protocol. For security reasons, you can disable this service by deselecting this radio button,
which enables the following secure web server (HTTPS). If security is not as much of an issue,
selecting this option allows using the simpler and slightly more convenient web server.
Enable HTTPS Server ()
When enabled, the router uses HTTPS, or secure web server. Selecting this option also disables
the insecure HTTP protocol.
Enable Telnet Server
Selects between a simple Telnet server or a Telnet over SSL server. When this option is selected,
the simple, insecure version of telnet is enabled.
Enable Telnet over SSL Server
When enabled, enables telnet over the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol. Select this option if
security is an issue. Selecting this option disables the simple version in addition to enabling
telnet over SSL.
Enable ASY Port Server
When enabled, the router uses the asynchronous (ASY) port server.
