Controlling the Audio Return Channel (ARC)

Chapter 12 CEC Interactive Troubleshooting Environment (ITE)
You can issue the necessary messages to control the HDMI 1.4 Audio Return Channel
(ARC) either through the command line or the CEC/CDC Controller.
To emulate an ARC device you will need the TPA-EAC-4R test point adapter. Please refer
to the 882 web pages on the Quantum Data website for an Application Note on the
TPA-EAC-4R.
The table below describes the ARC control messages.
Command
Function
Initiate ARC
Used by an ARC Rx
device to activate the
ARC functionality in an
ARC Tx device.
Report ARC
Used by an ARC Tx
initiated
device to indicate that its
ARC functionality has
been activated.
Report ARC
Used by an ARC Tx
terminated
device to indicate that
ARC functionality has
been deactived.
Request ARC
Used by an ARC Tx
Initiation
device to request an ARC
Tx device to activate the
ARC functionality in the
ARC Tx device.
Request ARC
Used by an ARC Tx
Termination
device to request an ARC
Rx device to deactivate
the ARC functionalty in
the ARC Tx deivce.
Terminate
Used by an ARC Tx
ARC
device to deactivate the
ARC functionality in an
ARC Tx device.
To test ARC functions of an ARC-equipped AVR while emulating an ARC-equipped
TV:
1. Enter the following command to initiate ARC on an ARC-equipped AVR.
Syntax
CECx:MSGX I F CO
x = CEC core in 882
I = logical address of initiator
F = logical address of follower
CO = opcode for Initiate ARC
message
CECx:MSGX I F C1
x = CEC core in 882
I = logical address of initiator
F = logical address of follower
C1 = opcode for Report ARC
Initiated
CECx:MSGX I F C2
x = CEC core in 882
I = logical address of initiator
F = logical address of follower
C2 = opcode for Report ARC
terminated
CECx:MSGX I F C3
x = CEC core in 882
I = logical address of initiator
F = logical address of follower
C3 = opcode for Request
