Switching Between Operating Systems
The system supports three operating systems: Tru64 UNIX, Linux, and
OpenVMS. You can switch from one operating system to another by
removing the disk for the operating system that is currently installed and
installing the disk for the operating system you want to run.
WARNING: To prevent injury, access is limited to persons who have appropriate
technical training and experience. Such persons are expected to understand the
hazards of working within this equipment and take measures to minimize
danger to themselves or others. These measures include:
1. Remove any jewelry that may conduct electricity.
2. If accessing the system card cage, power down the system and wait two
minutes to allow components to cool.
3. Wear an anti-static wrist strap when handling internal components.
CAUTION: The file structures of the three operating systems are incompatible.
When you switch between operating systems, you cannot read the data off disks
associated with the operating system that was running previously.
When you switch between operating systems, be sure to pull out the system
and data disks for the operating system you will not be using. Otherwise, you
risk corrupting data on the system disk.
