TOP UNIT
1. Release Mechanism
The top unit is hinged at the rear corners and swings up to facilitate the
removal of jammed paper.

When the release lever is lifted, the release wires pull the
release plates which in turn pull the lock pins. Then, the top unit is lifted
by two gas springs (similar to automobile shock absorbers).
The left and right front doors and the top unit all have safety switches.
When the left cover is opened, the main motor is disabled. When the right
cover is opened, all ac components except the development cooling fan and
optics cooling fan are disabled.
