Impure gas supply.
No (or insufficient) flow of
make-up gas.
Excess column bleeding.
Leaks on carrier and/or make-up
gas lines.
Contaminated collecting electrode
Chemically contaminated
radioactive source.
Pulse width not correctly set.
Maintaining an Electron Capture Detector
Remedy
Use high purity grade gases and
filters to trap moisture and oxygen.
Increase make-up gas flow rate.
Column conditioning is needed.
Run a leak test.
