3 PIM-DM Configuration
Context
When sending a Hello message, a PIM switch generates a random Generation ID and adds it to
the message. If the status of the switch is changed, for example, the switch is restarted, the switch
generates a new Generation ID when re-sending the Hello message. According to the Generation
ID contained in the message sent by an upstream neighbor, you can determine whether the status
of the switch is changed or the status of the upstream neighbor is changed.
Procedure
Step 1 Run:
system-view
The system view is displayed.
Step 2 Run:
interface interface-type interface-number
The interface view is displayed.
On the S9300, VLANIF interfaces and loopback interfaces support PIM.
Step 3 Run:
pim require-genid
The S9300 is configured to contain the Generation ID in the Hello messages and to reject Hello
messages without the Generation ID.
When the Generation ID contained in a Hello message sent by an upstream neighbor is not
changed, the S9300 learns that the status of the upstream neighbor is not changed. If the
S9300 does not want to receive data from an upstream neighbor, the S9300 sends a Prune
message after receiving a message from the upstream neighbor.

3.7 Setting the Forwarding Control Parameters

This section describes how to set the parameters for controlling Join messages or Prune messages
of PIM-DM.

Run the display pim interface [ interface-type interface-number | up | down ]
[ verbose ] command to check the PIM information on the interface.
Run the display pim neighbor [ interface interface-type interface-number | neighbor-
address ] [ verbose ] command to check the information about a PIM neighbor.
