5 MSDP Configuration
Controlling the Creation, Receiving, and Forwarding of an SA Message
By default, an S9300 accepts all SA messages that pass the RPF check and forwards the SA
messages to all MSDP peers.
You can use either of the following methods to configure filtering rules on the S9300 to control
the transmission of SA messages among MSDP peers.

5.3 Logical Relationships Between Configuration Tasks

This section describes the logical relationships between the configuration tasks.
To make each configuration of MSDP take effect, you must configure the basic MSDP functions.
All other configuration tasks are optional and are not listed in sequence. You can configure them
as required.

5.4 Configuring Basic MSDP Functions

This section describes how to configure the MSDP peer and enable the PIM-SM inter-domain
multicast.

5.4.1 Establishing the Configuration Task

5.4.2 Enabling MSDP
5.4.3 Configuring MSDP Peers in an AS
5.4.4 Configuring MSDP Peer Relation Across ASs on the MBGP Peer
5.4.5 Configuring Static RPF Peers
5.4.6 (Optional) Configuring the MSDP Mesh Group
5.4.7 Checking the Configuration
5.4.1 Establishing the Configuration Task
Applicable Environment
When a multicast network is divided into multiple PIM-SM domains, the RP in each domain
communicates and shares information from multicast sources with each other through MSDP.
Therefore, the users in a domain can receive multicast data from multicast sources in other
domains.
5-4
Configure the rule for filtering multicast sources in SA messages on the source RP. The
source RP filters the active multicast sources registered locally according to the rule, and
then determines the (S, G) information to be advertised.
Configure the rule for filtering received SA messages from remote MSDP peers. When the
SA message sent by a remote MSDP peer reaches the S9300, the S9300 determines whether
to accept the message according to the rule.
Configure the rule for filtering to-be-forwarded SA messages to remote MSDP peers.
Before forwarding SA messages to remote MSDP peers, the S9300 determines whether to
forward the SA messages according to the rule.
