4 PIM-SM Configuration
Procedure
Step 1 Run:
system-view
The system view is displayed.
Step 2 Run:
interface interface-type interface-number
The interface view is displayed.
On the S9300, VLANIF interfaces and loopback interfaces support PIM.
Step 3 Run:
pim sm
PIM-SM is enabled.
The SSM model is implemented based on certain subsets of PIM-SM. Therefore, after the PIM-
SM function is enabled, the system has the SSM capability. The protocol sends Hello messages
periodically to discover PIM neighbors and processes packets sent by PIM neighbors.
When the S9300 runs in the PIM-SSM domain, enable the PIM-SSM function on all the
interfaces of the non-boundary S9300.

Addresses
Prerequisite
The ACL for filtering the PIM-SSM multicast address is created.

Context
Information from the multicast source can be transmitted to receivers based on the SSM model
or the ASM model. This depends on whether the group address used to subscribe to channel (S,
G) is within the SSM address scope. Therefore, the address range is important for the PIM-SSM
model.
If the SSM address scope is not configured, the system adopts the address segment 232.0.0.0/8
as the default address range, which is reserved for SSM by IANA.
Ensure the SSM address ranges configured on all the S9300s on the entire network are the same;
otherwise, multicast packets cannot be transmitted based on the SSM model.
