4 PIM-SM Configuration

4.2 PIM-SM Features Supported by the S9300

This section describes PIM-SM features supported by the S9300.
Basic PIM-SM Functions
PIM-SM supports two multicast models: ASM and SSM. You can configure the model according
to the requirements. In addition, you can configure the range of SSM group addresses.
Controllable Multicast Sources
You can configure the Keepalive time of a multicast source and rules for filtering multicast
source addresses to control a multicast source. In addition, you can configure the policy to filter
Register messages, determine whether to calculate the checksum only according to the header
of a Register message, and suppress the PIM-SM Register message.
Static RP
You can specify the static RP on all S9300s in a PIM-SM domain. If a dynamic RP exists in the
domain, the dynamic RP is preferred by default. You can configure the S9300 to prefer the static
RP by setting the parameter.
Dynamic RP
You can configure a C-RP and a candidate BSR (C-BSR) in a PIM-SM domain. The BSR and
the RP are dynamically generated through unified rules. You can specify an ACL to limit the
range of the multicast groups served by the C-RP, adjust the priority for C-RP election, adjust
the timeout period for a BSR waiting to receive an Advertisement message from the C-RP, and
adjust the interval at which the C-RP sends Advertisement messages.
BSR
You can specify a C-BSR in a BSR domain, and adjust the hash mask length used by the C-RP
for C-RP election, the priority for BSR election, and the legal BSR address range. In addition,
you can configure the BSR service boundary on interfaces of an S9300 on the boundary of the
BSR domain to control the forwarding of BSR messages.
BSR Administrative Domain
You can configure the boundary of the administrative domain.
Controllable Neighbor Parameters
You can change the values of the parameters for controlling PIM-SM neighbors, including the
interval for sending Hello messages, timeout period for keeping the Reachable state of a
neighbor, interval for triggering Hello messages, and priority used for DR election.
PIM BFD
The S9300 can dynamically create a BFD session with a PIM neighbor to detect the status of
the link between them. When a fault occurs on the link, BFD notifies PIM of the fault.
