keyway with the arrow before attaching the chain or other drive mechanism. See Figure 2 - 7,
above, and Table 2 - 18, page 166. The press should be at top dead center when you do this.
To wire the resolver:
1. Refer to WPC processor board illustration, Figure 2 - 36, page 159. Also refer to wiring
diagram, Figure 1 at the end of this manual.
2. Find the resolver cable (if not connected to the resolver). Plug the end with the molded
connector into the resolver (it only goes one way). Twist the locknut so the connection is
tight.
3. Run the resolver cable through ½" conduit from the resolver to WPC. The resolver cable
will go into WPC from the bottom of the enclosure.
NOTICE
RUN OVERRUN LIMIT SWITCH WIRES WITH RESOLVER WIRES, IF CONVENIENT
If you will install the overrun limit switch near the resolver, you can run the overrun limit switch
cable through the same conduit as the resolver wires. Run the cable through for now, and leave
installation until later. Refer to the installation overview, Figure 2 - 1 and overrun limit switch
installation instructions, page 44.
4.
Refer to Figure 2 - 39, page 162, for the location of the resolver connector. Refer to
wiring diagram Figure 1 at the end of the manual and connect the resolver wires
accordingly. Also see Table 2 - 3, page 75. Measure the resolver wires to fit and cut the
wires. (If you also ran the overrun limit switch cable through, do not cut these wires until
the overrun limit switch is installed).
5. Notice that the resolver wires are plugged into the L-shaped resolver connector on the
edge of the main board, at terminals #89 through #95. Make sure you connect the black
and yellow wires correctly based upon the way your resolver will rotate—clockwise or
counterclockwise, as seen viewing the end of the shaft. You will "zero" the resolver and
verify correct wiring later.

If You Replace Your Resolver

If you are replacing a defective resolver, you may not be able to move the ram to TDC before
installing the resolver. If this is the case, before you remove the old resolver, make a note of
the angular position of the old resolver's keyway. When you install your new resolver, make
sure its keyway is in the same position as the old resolver's. Follow the instructions above to
mount and wire the new resolver, being sure to orient the keyway the same as the old
resolver's. After you install and wire the resolver, check the direction of the rotation of the
resolver (page 104). Then inch the press to top dead center and rezero the resolver according
to "Zero the Resolver," page 105.
