System Basics Introduction

Management of 1830 VWM

Note: This feature is not supported on 7210 SAS-R6 devices.
The 7210 SAS supports use and management of the 1830 VWM flexible CWDM clip-on device.
1830 VWM is a cost-optimized managed CWDM passive device, which is add-on shelf/NE and
provides CWDM extension to devices that do not have an in-built CWDM capabilities. 1830
VWM can act as an FOADM (Fixed Channel Optical Add-Drop Multiplexer) or multiplexer/de-
multiplexer unit. It allows the operators to use the existing fiber (or use less fiber) and increase the
bandwidth capacity available for carrying service traffic.
For more information about 1830 VWM, see "1830 VWM Product User Guides".
To manage the device, user needs to plug-in the 1830 VWM shelf to the USB port on the 7210
SAS-M and 7210 SAS-X devices. The 7210 SAS-T manages the 1830 device using the OMC
(Optical Management Console port).
Note:

Introduction to 1830 VWM CWDM Passive Optical device

The 1830 VWM CWDM Passive Optical device can be used in point-to-point or ring deployments
to multiplex multiple CWDM channels over a single fiber. This functionality either reuses the
existing fiber or uses a single fiber to meet the requirements for the always increasing demand for
service bandwidth. Up to 8 fixed CWDM channels is multiplexed over a single fiber using this
unit.

Only a single 1830 device can be managed using the USB interface.
Up to two 1830 VWM devices can be managed using the OMC port.
The management capabilities available through USB and OMC port are similar.
On 7210 SAS-T, the USB port cannot be used to manage the 1830 VWM device.
